On May 1, 2023, the famous fashion event will take place
The fashion gods of New York have spoken: the theme for next year's Met Gala will be the late German designer Karl Lagerfeld, who died in 2019 at the age of 85.
The invite-only event, as usual, will take place on the first Monday of May at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (this year, that would be May 1).

According to an official press release, the theme selection coincides with a new major exhibition on the fashion guru at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty" will be on display from May 5 to July 16, 2023, and will focus on "the designer's stylistic vocabulary as expressed in through lines—aesthetic themes that appear time and again—in his fashions from the 1950s to his final collection in 2019." There will be approximately 150 pieces on display, as well as original Lagerfeld sketches.
Andrew Bolton, the Institute's head curator, will curate the exhibition.
Back to the benefit, which can cost up to $30,000 to attend: according to the New York Times, the recently announced theme was originally scheduled for 2022 but had to be pushed back due to the pandemic.

There is no word yet on who will serve as co-chairs for the event, but we expect an announcement to be made soon.
As for the outfits that attending celebrities will wear to stay on theme, we anticipate that the red carpet will be overrun with Chanel, Balmain, Patou, Fendi, and Chloé, all of which Lagerfeld has worked with throughout his illustrious career.
