The Weeknd, Jazmine Sullivan, Selena Gomez, Lady Gaga, Giveon, and others were also named to the 2023 Academy Awards shortlist.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the shortlists for the 2023 Academy Awards. In particular, the race for Best Original Song features an intriguing mix of indie artists and pop stars: The shortlist includes LCD Soundsystem, Taylor Swift, Mitski, the Weeknd, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Giveon, Selena Gomez, and Jazmine Sullivan.

Past Oscar winners Ludwig Göransson, John Williams, Hildur Gunadóttir, and Alexandre Desplat could compete for Best Original Score. Terence Blanchard, Son Lux, Nicholas Britell, and Michael Abels are among the other notable shortlist contenders. The complete shortlist can be found below.
Summer of Soul won the 2022 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature Film, and two music-related projects made the shortlist for the 2023 award: Brett Morgen's David Bowie film, Moonage Daydream, and Hallelujah: Leonard Cohen, a Journey, a Song.
Notably absent from the shortlist for Best Live Action Short Film are Kendrick Lamar's "We Cry Together" and Taylor Swift's "All Too Well: The Short Film," both of which were eligible for consideration.
Billie Eilish and Finneas won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2022 for "No Time to Die." Hans Zimmer received the award for Best Original Score for his work on Dune.

The 2023 Academy Awards will be held in Hollywood, California on March 12, 2023. The nominees will be announced on Tuesday, January 24, 2023.
