In terrifying new Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania fan art, Kang the Conqueror is pictured relaxing surrounded by the bloodied treasures of the Avengers he just slain. In the first entry of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase 5 next month, Paul Rudd's Ant-Man will face the next Avengers-level foe, Jonathan Majors' Kang the Conqueror. Evangeline Lilly, Kathryn Newton, Michelle Pfeiffer, Michael Douglas, and Bill Murray will all appear in the film, which will take place in the Quantum Realm where Kang is stuck. Kang will finally face the Avengers in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty in Phase 6.
Close-up details reveal an array of kit and armor belonging to many of the Avengers, now spattered with the blood of the heroes he has presumably eliminated. Ant-Man's helmet is in view, as well as Thor's Stormbreaker, and even Thanos' Infinity Gauntlet equipped with all six Infinity Stones, among others. An ominous, foreboding caption teasing the many other iterations of Kang the Conqueror in the multiverse reads, "And If You Think I'm Bad, Well, Just Wait Till You Meet My Other Variants."
Why Kang The Conqueror Is A Major Threat To The Avengers
The Avengers have dealt with some huge threats over the course of the MCU, with Loki, Ultron, and Thanos having all battled the team of heroes. Thanos has proved to be by far the strongest adversary to date, even defeating the Avengers in Avengers: Infinity War after he was able to procure all six Infinity Stones and wipe out half of the universe's population. However, Kang the Conqueror is slated to be the most powerful being the Avengers have faced yet. The time traveler has the ability to change and destroy timelines and there are a huge amount of Kang variants scattered across the multiverse, most of whom are intent on the complete domination of all reality.
Phase 4 of the MCU has greatly expanded the roster of heroes, introducing new characters including She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, and Shang-Chi who may be hugely important going forward. Stronger than ever, the Avengers still face the biggest challenge of their lives when they encounter the time traveling warmonger in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Having already lost to Thanos, it seems inevitable that Kang the Conqueror should emerge victorious over the Avengers as the stronger villain. Though they used time travel through the Quantum Realm to eventually undo the Mad Titan's victory, Kang is a seasoned time traveler himself and would likely foil any attempt by the Avengers to use it against him.
With the Multiverse Saga well underway, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will be introducing the second Kang variant to be seen in the MCU so far, following He Who Remains from Loki season 1. This variant was more benevolent and was holding the Sacred Timeline in place before he was killed by Sylvie, a Loki variant, thus unleashing all the more barbaric Kang variants upon the multiverse. The Avengers' problem is that even if they are able to defeat one version of Kang, there are many others with the same goals. This makes him a huge threat, and it will take an incredible effort for the heroes to be able to overcome Kang the Conqueror in his many forms, including the one seen in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania hitting theaters February 17.
