The AFC championship will pit Henry Cavill and George Clooney's teams against each other.
The AFC championship game promises to be spectacular, as Patrick Mahomes' Kansas City Chiefs will seek to avenge last year's loss at home to Joe Burrow's Cincinnati Bengals, in a duel that promises great emotions at Arrowhead Stadium.
But it also has a particular element that adds spice to the matchup, as it is the equivalent of a meeting between two of the world's most powerful superheroes: Superman vs. Batman
Henry Cavill is a big Chiefs fan
British actor Henry Cavill is known for bringing Superman to life in the movies, and in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel he revealed that while he never grew up in a sports environment, he has become very interested in the NFL in recent years, learning the rules and how the game is played, and has even had to pick a team.
"I had been watching some soccer. I started to like the sport and realized I had to pick a team. The only way I could pick a team was with something that was never going to change...so I thought the one thing I would never change in my life is what Superman looks like. And I thought Superman is from Kansas, the people of Kansas support the Chiefs, it all fit," Cavill said.
What the actor didn't take into account is that the Chiefs are from Kansas City, which is located in the state of Missouri, while Smallville, the fictional town where Clark Kent / Superman grew up, is located in the state of Kansas. Anyway, Cavill is a fan of Mahomes and the Chiefs.
George Clooney is a die hard fan of Cincinnati teams
Oscar winner George Clooney played Batman in the 1997 film Batman & Robin, so he has been one of several actors to bring the Gotham City hero to life. Clooney was born in Kentucky in 1961, but grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, a city he loves dearly.
In fact, Clooney has always expressed his love for the NFL's Cincinnati Bengals and MLB's Cincinnati Reds, and he likes these teams also because his father was a prominent and well-known local television host. When he was 16, Clooney tried out for the Reds, but when he was rejected, he decided to pursue an acting career.
One anecdote of Clooney's that confirms he is a Bengals fan was on the 2013 Oscar red carpet, when he told Baltimore Ravens player Ed Reed, "Hey, Reed, you really hurt me, I'm a Bengals fan."
For his part, Joe Burrow has been compared to Batman. On an ESPN Get Up show, commentator Mike Greenberg said Burrow is like Batman in the fact that he's a normal guy, who doesn't have superpowers, but he's as good a superhero as Superman or Spider-Man.
So Sunday's Bengals-Chiefs showdown already has two superheroes facing off to see who's the best.
