At the Couture presentations in Paris last week, Cardi B donned a garment by Gaurav Gupta that had just made its debut. Anitta searched the archives for a 2003 Versace gown. Additionally, Doja Cat once more showed how to break the internet in Versace.
Doja Cat

At the Grammys last year, Doja Cat's look, a Versace gown accessorized with a glass Coperni bag, broke the internet for quite literally looking like it could break. This year, she said she's debuting a "new era" that's everything but fragile. Her first look of the night was a black latex Versace gown with an asymmetrical strap twisted around her back like a loose braid, styled with matching gloves and tentacle-like hoop earrings. She looked gusty and menacing and spunky, much like the tarantula that's currently her Instagram profile picture.
Cardi B
Thank god Cardi B has been making couture a habit on the Grammys red carpet. It would be impossible to possibly top her 2019 Grammy look, Mugler's The Birth of Venus dress from the Haute Couture 1996 collection, but tonight's Gaurav Gupta gown, straight from the couture runway, delivered just as much drama with sleeves that enveloped her like a drop of water frozen mid-splash.
Lizzo
Doja Cat looked spiderlike and Lizzo looked florid. The singer's bright orange Dolce&Gabanna ensemble featured a hooded cape covered in flower accents, with her face blooming at the center like the bud of a bouquet. Underneath she wore a corset top and matching skirt with sheer fingerless gloves and two large diamond rings like jeweled petals at her fingertips.
Steve Lacy
Earlier this week, Rolling Stone named Steve Lacy the most stylish musician of 2023 and he defended his title tonight in head-to-toe Saint Laurent. Lacy wore a double cross tuxedo pinned with a rhinestone and pearl shield brooch, knife-sharp boots, and oversized bug-like sunglasses while holding the brand's glossy Manhattan clutch against his chest like a priest holds a bible.
Lourdes Leon
Earlier this week, Lourdes Leon went viral on TikTok for showing up one minute late and missing Marc Jacob's runway show. She did, however, make it to the Grammys fashionably on time—and in a red ponte jersey crystal embellished gown with crystal pyramid cups from Area's fall 2022 collection, at that.
Brandi Carlile
Brandi Carlile knows about a good suit, and tonight she opted for a black satin two-piece suit by Versace, worn with a hot-pink button-down shirt and an ultra-skinny black tie. The suit hit at her knees with sleeves and side panels adorned with black sequin embroidery. For footwear, she went with oxfords, which frankly more celebrities should consider instead of the standard pump.
Shania Twain
According to Shania Twain there's a Shaniassance currently underway and fashion seems to be a major part of the country singer's rebirth. Her Harris Reed look was from the brand's spring collection titled Mise En Scène, which the designer described on Instagram as, "A collection centered around community, collaboration and all the incredible individuals that it takes to create safe spaces for everyone to feel their most authentic selves." And what says, "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!" more than a top hat that's somehow bigger than your bell bottoms?
Anitta
Anitta posted her Grammys look with the simple caption: "After 50 years, Brazil is at the Grammys." And she dressed the part of someone making history with a cascading vintage Versace gown from the 2003 couture collection. When asked what was going through her mind as she walked the carpet she said, "I feel like I look great" and she is absolutely correct.
Fran Drescher
Maybe what every award ceremony is missing is Fran Drescher, who easily out-dressed more than a handful of nominees. But what else would you expect from Fran Fine, whose looks from The Nanny celebrities should seriously consider recreating on the red carpet (especially all of her Bob Mackie).
Ella Mai
While black was a common theme on the Golden Globes red carpet, the Grammys are known for being a bit more extreme (and often sequined, and neon). Ella Mai brought an Old Hollywood look to the evening, with an off-the shoulder gown tied with an oversized bow.
Charlotte Lawrence
Singer Charlotte Lawrence offered another subdued look by Saint Laurent, with a low-slung skirt and strapless top that parted at her belly button. The look feels very Kate Moss in the '90s—which means it's perfect for the red carpet in 2023.
Kacey Musgraves in Valentino
Like Lizzo, Kacey Musgraves showed up in a detailed cape, adorned in pink feathers, that she later opened up to reveal the rest of her look: a Valentino catsuit and matching stilettos.
