The adoring father opened up about baby Malti's first birthday during his recent appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, where he revealed that he and the Quantico actress threw a party the previous weekend to celebrate the milestone day.
"We had to celebrate. She went through a pretty wild journey in the early part of her life, so we had to celebrate in style," he told host Clarkson. "She's one. She's beautiful. It's amazing. The best."
The couple welcomed their first child, full name Malti Marie Chopra Jonas, via surrogate last January, and the baby had complications at birth that kept her in the NICU for over three months. Chopra opened up about the experience in a heartfelt post on Mother's Day.
"After 100 plus days in the NICU, our little girl is finally home," she wrote. "Every family's journey is unique and requires a certain level of faith, and while ours was a challenging few months, what becomes abundantly clear, in retrospect, is how precious and perfect every moment is."
She continued, "We are overjoyed that our little girl is finally home, and just want to thank every doctor, nurse and specialist at Rady Children’s La Jolla and Cedar Sinai, Los Angeles, who were there selflessly every step of the way. Our next chapter begins now, and our baby is truly a badass. Let’s get it M! Mommy and Daddy love you."
The couple has kept their home life mostly private over the past year, while occasionally sharing glimpses of their family life of their daughter on Instagram. Jonas also spoke to People about the experience and their decision to share their story on social media.
"It was really important that people know that whatever their journey is or whatever challenges might come up, you're not alone," he told the outlet. "The power of social media is that it connects us all and makes this very big world a little bit smaller."
