Marissa Mishelle first burst onto the reality scene in 2006 during Season 3 of the iconc MTV' series "My Super Sweet 16." For those who may recall (or can simply guess), the show featured wealthy and often disgruntled teens and their extravagant 16th birthday parties — oftentimes to the viewers' chagrin and disdain.
While Mishelle certainly didn't take the (birthday) cake as the most sour among the privileged teens — lest we forget Sophie Mitchell — she did become known as the girl who dip-dyed her two poodles a beautiful shade of magenta in an effort to match the aesthetic for her "Pretty in Pink"-themed bash. Of course that's wasn't all. Mishelle also walked away with not one but two cars to commemorate the special occasion: a Mitsubishi Eclipse and a Mitsubishi Endeavor.
Aside from relishing her fame as an early MTV reality star, what ever happened to Mishelle? And whatever happened to those pink-colored poodles?
Once a reality star, always a reality star.
While we do not know what happened to her pair of hot pink poodles, we do know that shortly after Marissa Mishelle's debut on MTV's "My Super Sweet 16" she dipped her toe back into the reality television pond when she appeared on the show's spin-off, "Exiled." Jenna Arnold, the creator and executive producer of the spin-off, told the New York Times that the show was meant to serve as an "infomercial for activism." She added, "It's not a PBS show, or National Geographic or social studies ... It plants the seeds of, 'Oh my gosh, there's something else out there besides me.'" She also noted that she believed many of the "Sweet 16" stars probably went on the show in an effort to redeem themselves — and it appears Mishelle might agree.
"With EXILED, what they do is ship off these girls to different countries and I was shipped off to India and lived in a village with a tribe in the middle of the jungle," Mishelle explained during an interview with Rock Wired. "It was actually really amazing ... In the beginning, the show sort of makes me out to be this brat but I think people are going to see what a growing experience it was. I hope the experience will be good for my music as well." And speaking of music...
Do all roads lead to rock and roll? Well, sort of...
While Marissa Mishelle (now known as Marissa Dubois) initially made a name for herself appearing on reality television, as it turns out music was her real passion. "I've always been into music. I think the first time that I was on stage singing, I was five years old and singing in front of 500 people and ever since then, I think I was hooked," she revealed to Rock Wired. And Mishelle's not afraid to admit that she used all of that prior reality TV time to her advantage. "Reality TV seems to be the way to go right now," she declared. And that it was. Per In Touch, Mishelle served as the lead singer in Defy Tomorrow before eventually breaking away to pursue a solo career.
These days, however, Mishelle works as a voiceover actress and coach. "Our culture in the US trains us to follow one path our entire lives. It trains us that if we change gears that we are 'giving up on our dreams.' I call BS," she penned in a lengthy Instagram post about her career transition. "I still love singing, but I don't want to be a rockstar anymore. Who I am today doesn't want the same things I wanted when I was 18," she wrote while playfully taking note of the pink mohawk she used to pine for at 18 years old.
