If you’ve watched Legally Blonde more times that you can count, then Bella Hadid’s new hat might look familiar. The supermodel wore a bubblegum-pink crochet beanie for a recent dinner outing in New York, adorned with buttons and a cheery floral appliqué.
Bella’s sprightly headwear calls to mind the crochet hat that Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon) wears in Legally Blonde, which features a similar flower embellishment on one side. In the film, the sorority queen-turned-Harvard law student wears her snug purple beanie with skinny glasses, as she leans into her bookish new East Coast aesthetic. Of the 2023 It-girls, Bella is perhaps the leading proponent of Y2K style, so it makes sense that she should turn to an early Noughties comedy classic for inspiration.
The supermodel, who has a way with an eclectic retro look, styled her homespun accessory with a checked red dress, jacket and knee-high lace-up boots by Alexander McQueen, and carried a metallic tote bag emblazoned with a star motif by Florist NYC. Expect to see plenty more off-duty outfits from Bella in the coming weeks: New York Fashion Week kicks off tomorrow.
