In just two days, Rihanna will take to the stage for her highly anticipated halftime performance at the Super Bowl. Ever since her slot was announced, the rumour mill has been in overdrive: what will be her opening banger? Will there be any starry cameos? And, crucially, what will she wear?
The latter question, in particular, has been playing on our minds. There’s no question that Rihanna will deliver some spectacular fashion moments on the night, with a little help from her longtime stylist, Jahleel Weaver.
The singer gave us a high-fashion teaser when she appeared at the Apple Music Halftime Show press conference on Thursday night wearing an Alaïa look from Pieter Mulier’s spring/summer 2023 showcase, comprising a textured skirt and an oversized shearling jacket. Weaver pulled an array of custom accessories, including a bespoke Chrome Hearts anklet, Maria Tash earrings and Gianvito Rossi heels with straps that snaked almost all the way up the star’s legs.
At the event, Rihanna discussed the intense run-up to the show. “It’s a lot of preparation, a lot of moving parts,” explained the singer, who added that trying to cram the best of her 17 years of work into one wildly prestigious, 13-minute live performance has been tough. “It’s going to be a celebration of my catalogue in the best way we could have put it together.”
“The Super Bowl is one of the biggest stages in the world, so as scary as that was, because I haven’t been on stage in seven years, there’s something exhilarating about the challenge of it all,” she continued. “It’s important for me to do this this year, it’s important for representation, it’s important for my son to see that.”
